Dexter Davis believes in giving back to his community. The former Phoenix Cardinal and LA/St. Louis Ram Cornerback resides in metro-Atlanta with business and charity ties throughout the area. Yet, Davis continues to impact his home state of South Carolina where he played at Clemson.
Dexter with other business and community leaders in Sumter County, South Carolina and as the Vice Chairman of the Founding Board of Director helped establish the Sumter STEAM Charter School (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) the first in Sumter County.
Sumter STEAM Charter will help serve underprivileged kids and the school will be open to students throughout Sumter County. The Charter school will have smaller class sizes, increased flexibility in course offerings and be tuition-free.
Recently, Sumter STEAM Charter School (SSC) was approved unanimously by the South Carolina Public Charter School District (SCPCSD). SSC is currently interviewing for the executive director position with plans to open kindergarten and first-grade levels in 2021.
Davis said, “Securing approval from the SCPCSD for SSC is cause for great celebration to anyone who values greater public education options far and wide. SSC is uniquely positioned to be a bold part of the solution and it will level the playing field for all children, opening up the greatest of opportunities to anyone with the courage to dream and dream big. SSC will truly be a community school.”
“Dexter spreads himself and his work around” commented Andrew Bolton, President of the NFL Alumni Georgia Chapter, “Dexter ministers to the Atlanta Falcons and their families as their chaplain plus he’s a vice-president of the NFL Alumni Georgia Chapter and very involved in our events and fundraising.”
